Iceland

Exploring magical Iceland

The highlight of the year is a trip to Iceland, where you'll explore glaciers, ice caves and magical landscapes. We'll visit the famous Golden Circle, a 300 km trip to the three most popular natural attractions in Iceland: the Geysir Geothermal Area, Gullfoss Waterfall and Pingvellir National Park. You will also get the chance to visit Sólheimajökull glacier, where a professional guide will teach you the use of basic glacier equipment and take you on a hike into the glacier. Before flying back we'll go an iconic horseback ride with majestic Icelandic horses.

Skiing on the “vidde” in Finnmark

Around Easter we will go on 8 days skiing with tents and primus. This is the last long trip on the course. We decide the length of the trip together, but normally we go about 80 kilometers by ski in 8 days. Then we have time to ice fish, go skiing or just be in nature a few days. We meet the Hunting and Fishing class and we will go back down to civilization with them.

Canoe trip in Øvre Pasvik National Park

We go canoeing into the heart of Pasvik, Øvre Pasvik National Park. Here we really get to know Pasvik the first week at school. By canoe we come close to nature, and have every opportunity to get around the large lakes south of the national park. We sleep in the shelters and get to know each other around the fire in the evenings. A great start to a great school year!

Mountain hike to Rastigaisa

At the end of September, we head to Rastigaisa, eastern Finnmarks highest mountain. Here we really get to see what is possible as a group. And the views are phenomenal. We live in tents and take day trips out of the basecamp. One day the trip goes to the top of Rastigaisa, and from here we see "the whole world".

Cabin hike in the valley of Pasvik

Around the middle of October we go back into the woods of Pasvik. The minus degrees have just started to come and there is often frost on the bogs and maybe a thin layer of ice along the water's edge.

There are several cabins in Pasvik and we can choose whether we go on a hike from cabin to cabin or have a base for a couple of days. The cabins are not that big, so here we have a tent or tarp with us as well. There will be a lot of bonfires, and if we are lucky, the northern lights are good at this time as well.

Alone in the woods

In the transition between autumn and winter, you get to experience something truly unique through a night all alone under the northern lights of the Pasvik forest, under your own shelter in front of your own campfire.

Winter hike in the mountains

On the winter hike in February you will be introduced to accommodation in both snow caves and tents. Here you will try things step by step, to build up experience and skills ahead of the big trip across the plateau in April.
